Norbanks Sailing has heaps of options to keep the kids entertained including learn to sail, wakeboarding and parasailing and the regatta itself consists of two fun and entertaining distance races over the two days.
Spring Break in Ventura
This last week was Spring Break at my kids school so we embarked on a road trip from San Francisco down the Central California coast. We spent two days camping in San Simeon and visited Hearst Castle, then Pismo Beach and then on to Santa Barbara and Ventura.

Toni Sacco sums up WetaFest
Never in my wildest dreams would a trip to Florida to sail Wetas entail sailing with an Olympian and winning a national championship.
The Texas Superman Story
John from Texas telling the story of how he won the Fort Walton Bottomless beer mug, very funny!
The French Weta Challenge

2013 Trimaran Nationals
Don't forget the Trimaran Nationals event in Pensacola that's on later this month. The event is with the Farrier and Corsair fleet, and is an excellent time of year to be down here sailing.
Format is typically one distance race and the rest windward leeward.
For those of you who came to WetaFest - I promise warmer weather!
Jim Leonard, Mike Meade and Cliff will be there for starters...who else is in?
April 25 to 28.
The double handed duo take it out!
Congrats to Randy Smyth and Toni Sacco who took out the first WetaFest ever, sponsored by Ronstan over the weekend!
The last race of the series was a 1.5 hour distance race, Fort Walton turned it on with a warm, sunny and windy conditions!
Double handed duo dominating WetaFest
photos by Perrott Studios
The blustery conditions have caused a bit of an upset at Fort Walton with a doubled handed crew leading the regatta for the first time ever! Normally the lighter single handed crews have to give time to double handed crews, but Toni Sacco and Randy Smyth seem to have got it right and are sailing smart in the windy conditions. Yesterday (Saturday) the wind died out and brought rain and thunderstorms, so the racing had to be abandoned after one race. But at least it gave everyone a chance to recover from Friday and rest up for the party that evening!
A full on start to WetaFest!
From Chris Kitchen: Yesterday it was freezing and windy 18-25 knots. Many people called it a day due to the temperature and wind but racing was good for those that did it. One of the girls from Ithica, Toni ended up sailing with Randy Smyth. He lives not far from the yacht club and got the call up. They got the boat tuned in and won 3 of the 5 races. Great to see double handers winning! They are both light and on the short course the extra pair of hands worked well. Not to mention he is also a rather handy multihull sailor...
Day one is Windy!

Weta Fever in North America
It’s all happening with Weta Trimarans in the USA, with a busy racing calendar down the East and West Coasts, and the highlight is the first ever US Nationals held in Fort Walton, FL in just under 20 days, sponsored by Ronstan.
The Algies drift off
Kawau Island - so close yet so far!
It started off with a promising south westerly, and everyone set off with the idea of being able to reach Kawau Island in double quick time. Unfortunately plans quickly changed as the breeze swung to the east and died out to nothing, leaving beautiful glassy conditions, but not very good for sailing!
Weta Afternoon in the Caribbean
Does not look to shabby!
The Great Race 2013
The Great Race, a 20 mile distance race from Southport yacht club in the Gold Coast to Weirman creek near Brisbane was favoured with the addition of 3 Wetas this year. A popular local multi race for off the beach cats and dinghies it weaves up the channels of the broadwater and across Morton Bay, making for some tricky and tactical sailing, with a lot of sandbanks to avoid!

Great Racing and Learning at Charlotte Harbor Regatta 2013
Report by Cliff Farrah
Charlotte Harbor Regatta kicked off the Weta Florida Spring Series for 2013. The racing fleet was 6 strong, fewer than prior years, but strong in spirit and expecting a great regatta. We were not disappointed, and Thursday's practice started with gusts to the mid twenties. While others huddled on the beach, the Wetas went out and ripped around the bay.
Simon Daubney on his Weta
Just a note to say how much we have been enjoying the Weta over the last few months and to congratulate you on the great job you have done in developing a great little boat. Initially I was concerned that it might be a little too much boat for my 4, 6 and 8 year old kids. However I picked my weather, keeping the sailing days under 15 knots and they just loved it. It was a big plus that I could get them all out at the same time.
Join us at Richmond Yacht Club for "Sail a Small Boat Day!" on Saturday March 2nd
This event is open to EVERYONE...sailors and non-sailors, young and old. Even people who crash their Weta's together like this!
Wildlife and wind for Motuihe Cruise
It started out a pretty grey day at Aucklands Eastern beach, when 3 Wetas, a kiteboard (Justina) and a coach boat (Chris) turned up for a sail on Sunday morning. But our efforts were well rewarded with an exciting downwind blast to Motuihe island as the cloud burned off and the wind got up to a 20-25 knot Westerly.
From an owner in California...
Water = 55F
Air = 55F
Wind = 12 - 15 kts

Life is good
Weta and Santa made an apperance at the crew.org.nz rum race last night, a great race, lots of fun, thank you crew.org.nz for putting it on!
The Weta Florida Spring Series is looking hot!
Cool beer, warm sailing and a large group of people to talk Weta with, what more could you ask for?
The Weta Florida Spring Series is coming up fast! Weta Fest is going to double as the Weta East Coast Champs and Weta Marine is putting on a first prize of a flight and charter for the West Coast Champs! Take note the prize goes to the first East Coaster in the regatta (just in case the Weta Coasters come over and dominate...??)
Weta Fleet Building in the Middle East
The Muscat Regatta held over November 22-23 has become a regular feature and is held in the weekend between the Dubai – Muscat and Muscat - Khasab offshore races.
The inshore event saw several dinghy fleets start including Optimist, Q'ba and several flavours of Laser. Among multi-hulls there were 2 Hobie 16's and 5 Wetas. It was great to see a large number of children participating across the smaller dinghy classes with the majority of these sailors still of school age.
Weta Fest 2013 is on!
Hot off the press, FWYC Fleet Captain John Farris has confirmed FWYC will be pleased to host the opening WETAFEST 2013 in late March. Designed to allow "out of towners" to do Charlotte Harbor regatta, go to work for a month to replenish bank accounts and then come to race on the beautiful Emerald Coast, WetaFest is destined to be a staple event on the Weta calendar in the US.
The Weta Summer Rally by Gary Napier
After much debate and pulling of hair the NZ Weta Association decided to mix it up for the 2012 Nationals. Rather than repeat the formula from prior years of hosting a racing event with additional family sailing thrown in we decided it would be fun to head to the Coromandel for a weekend of great destination sailing for all the family with some coaching from Team Weta.
French Bay Open Day
Thanks French Bay Yacht Club for having us on Sunday!
It was the French Bay open day and French Market in Titirangi, Auckland and I bought the Weta down as an extra dinghy for people to try sailing. Hopefully we got a few converts and helped to boost the clubs new entrants. I did have to spend a lot of time eating croissants on the beach!
St Francis Fall Dinghy Regatta 2012
Weta sailors on the bay were rewarded with some close racing and great sailing conditions for the St Francis Fall Dinghy this year, giving them a chance to work on their skills in lighter and building breezes and even some flat water! Read on for a report by Dave Berntsen
What a couple of days! We took all sorts of people out from Opti kids to a land yachter who is used to doing 80kph and they all got a buzz and had a drive. We also had no capsizes even though we were sailing on a super puffy lake with 35 knot squalls coming through and had novice sailors on the helm most of the time, a lot of fun!
Heineken HPDO 2012
Three Weta sailors stood on Milton Point, looking out across Long Island Sound. There were scattered clouds and a fresh 15 knot Westerly breeze. The competitors meeting was about to begin and our boats were ready to launch and race with the fleet of 115 other high performance dinghies in one of the country's premiere small boat regattas. For me, conditions looked perfect, but our new Weta sailor, Toni, was feeling apprehensive. The way out to the racecourse was lined with rocks and moored boats, the whitecaps glinted menacingly in the patches of sunlight. "I don't know..." she said, "The wind is building... I think I'm going to sit this one out".
It's that time of year again and we are excited to announce that the Weta Nationals has morphed into the Weta Summer Rally and will be from November the 16th - 18th. We have a really cool family friendly format, with a bit of racing thrown in. Held from a Coromandel camping ground - Long Bay Motor Camp - the emphasis will be on fun with a destination race to a secret location, coaching from Chris, ball scramble, barbeques and beers and special buffet dinner from the Coromandel Mussel Kitchen.
Smoking Demo Day in Auckland

Weta West Coast Championships 2012
Hosted by the Richmond Yacht Club - Multihull Regatta
September 22 & 23
Although it’s fall and the summer winds are starting to abate, the conditions were excellent for last weekend’s Multihull Regatta hosted by the Richmond Yacht Club.
Update from Weta in Chile!
We were invited to participate as Weta class by the Yacht Club of Chile, located in Recreo, between Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. First ever Weta regatta in Chile, so within a few hours we had our complete fleet committed but with some logistic problems to be solved after a long winter.
3rd Austrian Weta Challenge
Nine teams from Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Slovenija competed in light conditions on Lake Attersee over the weekend.
Fun family sailing was had by all and everyone enjoyed the chance to catch up and talk Weta!
Weta West Coast Championship
As part of the Weta West Coast Championships, we are excited to announce that we will have an “America’s Cup Update” presentation Saturday evening at the RYC.
European Weta 2012 - Chris' report
It was like a dream coming true to see the Yacht Club Carnac boat park full of Weta’s in a range of colours with all types of crew interacting at the European Weta 2012. 10 years ago Roger and I set out to create a boat that anyone could enjoy with a real focus on fun, involvement and enjoyment of the sport we love so much. It was a moving moment to reach this milestone where the atmosphere reflected exactly this.
Champagne sailing in the SBYC Wine & Roses Regatta
Sailing during the summer in Southern California is pretty hard to beat. Last weekend (August 18 & 19) five Wetas traveled to beautiful Santa Barbara to compete in the Wine and Roses regatta, along with 30 Hobie sailors, for the second time. Returning from last year were Marc Simmel, John Rizzi and Tim Corcoran. New to the event this year were Ben Teitelbaum and Bob Shirley.

Be Prepared, Get a Weta!
From Thomas Scheuch (WETA 458) who took his Weta to Calabria, Italy this spring. During his stay his WETA acted as an altar for the local boy & girl scouts, not to mention a bit of fun sailing for them!
