4. Why a Trimaran
A Trimaran Has Many Distinct Advantages Over A Catamaran:
- A trimaran is able to offer more stability with a wider beam.
- A more buoyant central hull enables a greater load carrying in the low wind range.
- With a central deep centreboard the manoeuvrability is much superior.
- It enables the Weta to be very compact when stored.
- Only a single rudder is needed.
- The deep cockpit enables a trimaran to offer a much more comfortable sitting position essential when cruising. It is also a safety factor with young children.
- Righting a Weta after a capsize is easy with little effort. Righting a catamaran is difficult if not impossible on your own.
A Trimaran Has Many Advantages Over A Monohull:
- Stability. A trimaran is very stable which makes teaching sailing easier with more quality instruction.
- More safety for novice sailors in rough seas
- Much more room than on a monohull of the same length
- A trimaran has 3 watertight hulls making it safer
