Botany Bay Marathon Race

Four Wetas turned out at Kurnell Catamaran Club for possibly one of the best races we've had on Botany Bay with a 12-15 knot Southerly blowing, little traffic, few wind obstructions and mostly flat water.

The trip took exactly 10 hours, maybe a 10-15 knot NE would be a more consistent direction. It was a bit touch and go around Hooks Bay with almost nil wind. Anyway, lots of fun chasing down the big boats all day and learnt a bit more.

It is my opinion that the biggest mistake people make when double-handing a Weta when downwind reaching, is having one person steer the boat while the other sheets the screecher.

Winner of the 2016 Hobie 16 World Masters and winner of many Australian Multihull Championships, Rod Waterhouse, will compete in the Weta Trimaran class in the sailing regatta at the World Masters Games in Auckland, New Zealand in April next year.

Red Beach to Mansion House Bay, NZ
