WētāFest 2023 is in the books!

Sixteen crews, 13 single-handed and 3 double-handed, joined the fun and festivities from Thursday, April 20th through Sunday, April 23rd on beautiful Choctawhatchee Bay at the Fort Walton Yacht Club in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Participation in regattas by Wētās sailors has dwindled significantly on the West Coast since the mid-twenty-teens. Last year, we were only able to get a fleet (6 boats) together for one regatta, the Commodores Invitational at Huntington Lake.

Dick Hitchcock Memorial Regatta

The 3rd Annual Dick Hitchcock Memorial Regatta was contested in Gulfport, Florida on March 18th and 19th, 2023. Frigid temperatures (OK, Florida frigid (50’s and 60’s Fahrenheit)) greeted the twelve intrepid competitors on Boca Ciega Bay.

The weather for WētāFest was absolutely perfect with a good SW wind of 15 to 20 knots on the Saturday which kept the racers on their toes and the cruisers happy to complete the course.

CSC Wētās at Sailing World Regatta Series

Sailors flocked to Florida in February for the biggest regatta of the year! Leg one of the Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series did not disappoint with 270 boats, three days of racing, four sailing circles and lively parties featuring Mount Gay Rum.

Wētās have raced in the Memorial Day Regatta at Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach in the past and we attempted to get a fleet again for this year.

2021 Weta class All Japan Championship

At Enoshima Yacht Harbor, where the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were held last July, 10 colorful WETA boats gathered at the 2nd WETA Class All Japan Championship. The rule this time required more than double hand.

This year, the competition will be in the category of double hand or higher, but since the entry will be for each boat (not people), skippers and crews can be replaced at the discretion (selection) of each boat. Entry fee: 16,000 yen
