Next year we have 10 years anniversary for the Wet Championships in Hampetorp so we are extra happy that the ninth championship was so good. Here is the recipe for such a successful meeting:
- Hampetorp, the beach, the boat club, the harbor, the campsite, the restaurant
- Wonderful weather with sun and fresh warm winds
- Volunteer weta enthusiasts
- Wetaseglare and relatives
Collection at Hampetorp
On Friday, the verdict came. Sailors from Stockholm, Skåne and the West Coast who install themselves on site in tents, motorhomes and camping cabins. The weather is a bit cloudy and the temperature has dropped below 25 degrees, which means that we can have our Wetor at the swimming area. On Saturday morning to the collection at 11:00, we include a total of eight Wetors.
Ulrika from Weta Väst distributes goodie bags to all competitors and organizers. A much appreciated feature. Bengt goes through how we have planned the arrangement for the weekend. We will sail freely and get to know each other and the water for a couple of hours then we run two heats. These are seen as practice heats and do not affect the competition itself.
Out and enjoy
We get to test our boats and skills against each other and it is noticeable that those who have sailed for a few years are shoveling home and really gaining speed on the boats. Gennaker-Erik and Hans fight with Kaj who has an old boat but who is really up to speed. Our Hobie 16 friends Jimmy and Fredrik try to match Arne and Zofie in a double handed battle. The new Weta friends Tomas and Thomas do art on a pontoon and we also get to see a complete lift out of the sea from Thomas and Anarkitty. Nice to see that you do not hesitate when the Närking villages are pressing. You really fit into the gang.
In the evening we eat and drink a little good and compare cross angles and wasp stings. At the same time, Vinön takes place around the party a hundred meters from us. But we have to get to bed before the ship meeting is at 09:00.
Everyone on the podium.
We get a little manfall tomorrow as some injuries have been reminded after the warm-up on Saturday. The weather is just as good today and the winds a little harder, so everything is perfect. We get two classes with three singlehanded and six doublehanded sailors. Glad that Arne and Zofie got some matching. Thomas and Anarkitty host Jimmy and Leif and Trillian III host Sussie. They are two experienced racers who will be a grateful addition.
We run an Americas Cup course (cross - county course with half wind start) of course it is difficult to hear and see the signals from the starting boat in the increasing winds but it is the same for everyone. Small waves, fresh winds and durable Wetor go back and forth for a couple of hours. The winds hold the whole race. Erik who likes strong winds manages to keep away from Hans who probably has the most hours in a Weta in recent years and just behind them comes Tomas in his beautiful blue Weta.
In double handed, Arne and Zofie are unthreatened and so heavenly together that it is a joy to see, a little from behind. Thomas and Jimmy pinch second place and Leif and Sussie shortly afterwards.
Award ceremony and onwards
At the award ceremony, they realize that we will see each other here next August, but we want to see each other before then. So we look at sailing in Lerum in September. In addition, several of us have decided on the European Championships in France and we will conduct raids next year. Falkenberg - Anholt received four votes immediately. It looks bright on the sailing front.
