The 2021 Weta East Coast Championship at the 64th North Carolina Governor’s Cup June 18-20 was building momentum with 10 Classes planning to attend. It was a tight race between the Wetas and the Wayfarers, the two largest fleets, to get the most boats registered.

After a several year hiatus, Duck Cup was baaa-ck June 5-6. A Nor’Banks tradition since the 80’s, promises to never be the same event each year. All multihulls 20’ and under spend two days of distance racing on the Currituck Sound located in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

After hibernating for the past year, a few Wetas decided it was time to venture out in the world close to home. As fate would happen, others decided to do the same.

No good deed goes unpunished. Bill Mattson, a local beach cat sailor, volunteered to video our swarm with his drone. Last week he and I did a successful test run in which he launched from near the Ventura Pier and took some beautiful pictures despite the light wind.

Sometimes last minute plans turn out to be the best. A change in our Easter weekend swarm location from Beaufort to New Bern provided just that.

Florida Weta sailors moved the show about an hour North from Sarasota to Gulfport Yacht Club for back to back weekend racing action.

14 boats registered for the event including 4 new Weta sailors and entrants from 7 different States. Obviously folks want to get back to sailing after taking most of 2020 off.

Charles “Pooch” Pucciariello defends his lead on day three to win the 2021 Bluster on the Bay. Charlie, man of few words, summed up his performance “When the wind blows, hike hard and win. When the wind goes light fat boys go slow”.
