Some boats start with a bang and fade away, and some boats start with a smaller noise, and build up to something bigger. The Wētā has become such a boat with strong fleets all around the world.

Eric Frank invited the Mid-Atlantic Wētā Fleet to Blackbeard Sailing Club in New Bern, NC for the 2023 Turkey Trot One Design Regatta scheduled for 1 day of racing on Saturday 18 November. This was my second trip this season to Blackbeard’s.

The 2023 Wētā North American Championship, held in conjunction with the Columbia Sailing Club's Fall Invitational from October 19-22, took place on Lake Murray in South Carolina. This event drew sailors from various states, including California, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.

The Virginia Inland Sailing Association (VISA) hosted this annual regatta the weekend of the 7th & 8th on the picturesque Smith Mountain Lake near Moneta Va. Five Wētās met there hoping to warmup for the upcoming NAs later this month in Columbia SC.

Carolina Sailing Club Weekend Series #3 began, as our weekends at Kerr Lake often do, with Chuck and Alan going for a Friday afternoon sail. Our fun was short-circuited by a pop-up thunderstorm and a quick reach back to the beach.

From Thursday, September 7th, to Sunday, September 10th, the waters of L’Escala have been the setting for the European regatta of Wētā dinghy trimarans.

Location: Ithaca Yacht Club, Cayuga Lake, New York. Event Organizers: Richard Stephens, Liz Singh, and Devin Van Zandt. The Ithaca Yacht Club (IYC) hosted five Wētās and several Hobie catamarans for a wonderful and memorable weekend of sailing from August 25-27, 2023.
